Key Appointment Reinforces Civil Design Business

26/02/2010

Wind Prospect has appointed Colin Aimers to the post of General Manager, Civil Engineering Services to spearhead the continuing growth of its UK based Civil Engineering Services business, as the Group continues to attract major contracts across Europe.

Widely recognised as a leading designer, Colin Aimers became a Chartered Engineer via his first onshore wind farm project in 2001. He joined Wind Prospect in 2002 as a project manager, having previously worked on design projects throughout the UK.

Speaking about the challenges that lie ahead in his new role, Colin said:

“The requirements of planning authorities and statutory consultees have become more technically demanding; information, design and planning normally reserved for the post consent phase is being demanded earlier and to a more thorough standard. This has increased the importance of civil engineering early-on in the development process.

“Good design comes from experience, combined with feedback from the construction phase - something we have always done in Wind Prospect as a matter of routine. To date, we have completed over 50 site designs and over 40 turbine foundation designs for a variety of Clients. We have also seen a large number of projects from other developers where significant problems have been caused by insufficient regard for good design during the development process.”

With new design standards coming into force next month, Colin and his team are well-positioned to handle the changes. He added:

“By recruiting talent fresh out of university, we have engineers equipped with the latest techniques and learning, working alongside specialists that have been in the industry from day one. This gives us a distinct advantage in that all our designs have been engineered to be Eurocode compliant well in advance of the March 2010 deadline.”

Wind Prospect’s Construction & Operations Director Bruce Allan said:

“We have a team of more than 50 engineers working across the Wind Prospect group. The growth in demand for our services has highlighted the need to structure the Civil Engineering business and for it to be led by a highly experienced engineer. We wish Colin every success in his new role as we enter what we anticipate to be a heightened period of activity for civil engineering.”
