24/05/2010 Planning permission for a Fens wind farm has been granted by the Planning Inspectorate, following an appeal against the decision made by Peterborough City Council to refuse the scheme.
The 7-turbine Nutsgrove development is a joint venture between partners Wind Prospect Developments and Ridgewind. It will have a maximum capacity of 14MW and be sufficient to power the equivalent of 7,800 homes.
The planning application for Nutsgrove was submitted by Wind Prospect and Ridgewind in July 2006 and has finally been consented four years later.
In granting permission, the Planning Inspector commented: “The sheer scale of the Fens rapidly absorbs wind farms…” and added that the Nutsgrove site has a number of “desirable features” including a sparse resident population, reasonable separations to the nearest dwellings and practical grid connections.
Planning is consented subject to a number of conditions, which Wind Prospect and Ridgewind have commenced work to discharge, with construction due to start in 2011.
Further details on this project are available on the Nutsgrove Windfarm project pages.
