Wind Prospect submitted a planning application to Argyll and Bute Council for Stacain Wind Farm in April 2005 and received consent from the local authority on 19 December 2007. However, this decision was then “called-in” by the Scottish Government and was the subject of a Local Public Inquiry in November 2008.
Following the Inquiry, Scottish Ministers refused planning permission. Wind Prospect then challenged this decision in the Court of Session, Scotland’s highest court, and won in March 2010 (Stacain news release - Mar 2010). Ministers have decided that the Public Inquiry will be re-opened.
The site is located on land to the northwest of Lochan Shira reservoir, next to Sròn Mòr hydroelectric power station, and approximately 5.5km south of Dalmally and will be almost 2km from the nearest residential property.
Residents will have the opportunity to invest between £250 and £500 in the project via an investment company, and a local trust fund will be set up and managed by a committee of local residents.
